I know that everyone will agree that one of the primary aims of high school is for students to do their very best to improve their skills and knowledge with the goal of preparing themselves for life after high school. Depending on each individual student that could mean moving on to higher education, starting a career or advancing in some other personal direction. I think we all agree that a HS diploma is an important step for all of these goals.

One of the greatest impediments for students achieving their goals is failing classes.  It is our belief that all students can and should pass their classes. Our experience has shown that the major reason for failing is not a lack of understanding, but, rather a lack of doing the simple things—attending class, turning in work, studying. Sometimes we need to place both positive and negative consequences before students to help them focus on the importance of doing those things to achieve passing grades.

At CVHS and most other high schools, parking is very limited and it is a privilege--not a right--to be allowed to park on campus. With that in mind, next Fall CVHS will be using grades as an “ eligibility qualifier” for students to apply for parking privileges.

§         Next Fall to be eligible to apply for a parking pass, students must have NO FAILING GRADES on the Spring 2007 final report card.

§         Parking passes will be valid for a semester only and all students will have to re-apply for 2nd semester parking. Again, any student who receives a failing grade in the Fall 2007 semester will not be eligible to apply for a permit for the Spring 2008 semester. Students who were ineligible based on their Spring 2007 grades will now be eligible if they did not receive an “F” on the Fall 2007 report.

§         It is important to remember that passing all classes only qualifies students to be eligible to APPLY for a permit.

All students were informed of this new policy during announcements the past week.  They have plenty of warning and opportunity to be sure they do not fail any classes. I know that you will join with us to work with our students to be successful.
